I believe that it is the teachers responsibility to pre-screen everything that will be shown during class. Just searching a topic may end up directing the student to a site they do not need to be on. I know at our school , they have a prety good filtering system that helps curb a lot of the pop-up ads and adult content, but I have been at schools that didn`t have these filters. At one school I visited, the kids all had laptops and when they were in class the teacher could see what they were looking at from his desk. Having this kind of Web-monitoring is a great way to help keep the kids safe.I also think that clear instructions on what to look at and what not to look at helps the kids focus their attention.

Also, having students and parents sign an Acceptable Use Policy and reminding students of the guidelines of the policy repeatedly are great strategies as well.
